Summon or Surrender

I summon you! There’s truly something powerful about this word, isn’t there? It signifies a dramatic shift in power dynamics. It’s one of those words that can bring you to your knees. You can almost see it in action. Some revel in summoning, while others find fulfilment in obeying. It’s a word that sits on the spectrum of two extremes: to summon is to command presence and authority, whereas to surrender is the willingness to be used as one pleases, "I give myself completely."
Both words reside at opposite ends of a spectrum yet share a common thread of trust and generosity. This exploration delves into the profound emotions these acts evoke, highlighting how both summoning and surrendering require deep trust to be truly potent. As I delved deeper in thought with these two words, I realised that their foundation is firmly rooted in trust. This element forms the foundation upon which both ‘summon’ and ‘surrender’ are built. Each word evokes a unique sense of presence and engagement, yet the true divergence lies in our emotional response to them. Consider the exhilaration that accompany being summoned — an invitation to submit entirely “On your knees and wait, be my chair, lick me!” These commands invite us to embrace direction, to obey, and to worship without boundaries or constraints. In contrast stands surrendering—a state filled with a profound willingness to place oneself wholly at another's disposal. “Do as you please, take me?”
The desire not just to follow but to entrust oneself completely into another. It is perhaps this act of letting go — the liberation inherent in both summoning and surrendering — that offers us this sense of release. Does it have to be a straight road? or can we turn left and right when we need, perhaps that is personal journey but whatever that choice may be it holds within it a reward as sweet as nectar.
So, what will it be? To be summoned at my feet or to surrender and be used?
